POPs Ride (Pedal Over Parkinson's) is a four-man team of bikers who will pedal cross country next year to raise $1 million for Parkinson's disease. Before their ride begins in April 2011, they're planning a number of Phoenix-area fundraisers to get the word out about their ride.

Their next fundraiser is a "Pig'n Out for Parkinson's" BBQ event to be held at Tom's BBQ in Chandler this Sunday, August 29 from 11:00 - 3:00. Tom's BBQ is located at 4920 South Gilbert in Chandler. See the flyer below.

Here's a little background on POPs Ride: Six years ago Shane and Shannon Stutzman's father, Jerry, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Then, on Thanksgiving 2008, Shane and Shannon's cousin Pam, on their mother's side of the family, was diagnosed with Parkinson's too.

Art Exposition & Open House Event Honoring the World Renowned Icon of Holistic Medicine

June 27, 2010 – Phoenix, AZ —If anyone has aged gracefully with purpose and continues to impart to the world life-giving healing medicine, it’s Dr. Gladys T. McGarey, known to most as the revered "mother of holistic medicine."

Gallery 2345 (http://gallery2345) in collaboration with Amelia magazine (http://ameliamagazine.com) opens its doors and invites the community to experience an evening of exceptional art and music dedicated to the persevering spirit of a global icon who resides in the Valley – Dr. Gladys T. McGarey.

Join us as we share Gladys' compelling story of her young life growing up in northern India as the daughter of two medical missionary parents who worked in the

Amelia magazine Gladys McGareyHimalayan Mountains treating all Indians regardless of their Hindu caste. Gladys' parents were her inspiration and first teachers who planted the first seeds within Gladys to practice medicine as a vocation and avocation. Gladys overcame great obstacles to become one of our nation's foremost female doctors. Gladys continued to blaze new trails as a doctor, mother and wife building a practice, raising a family and studying alternative medicine to become one of the founders of the Holistic Medical Association.

At 84, Gladys traveled to Afghanistan to work with her physician brother and his organization, Future Generations, providing important information for women, in particular pregnant women.

Now, at 89, Gladys has led a year-long effort collaborating with the nation's top holistic practitioners to develop a white paper at the request of President Obama to provide solutions for our country's health care conundrum.

Gallery 2345 and Amelia magazine have organized the evening’s program to include a "storytelling" by Dr. McGarey, the vocal talents of Renee Morgan Brooks and music by renowned tabla player Daniel Hirtz and other local musicians.

The collaboration of Gallery 2345 and Mouth To Mouth Media, the publisher of Amelia magazine, celebrates the community of artists, sculptors, authors, angels, musicians, architects and evolutionary visionaries who are committed to “doing well while doing good.” Sheila, co-founder of Gallery 2345, stated, "We feel as though we have been given an exceptional gift and now it is up to us to make the most of it. Personally, I was so inspired by the story of Gladys that we are honored and so pleased to lead the launch of Amelia magazine and support the incredible work of Dr. McGarey."

Annie Loyd, managing partner of Mouth To Mouth Media and publisher of Amelia magazine commented, "We are celebrating the leadership of exceptionally creative individuals who are willing to roll up their sleeves and work together. This is a very exciting time!"

Event fee is $10.00 per person. Autograph signing and purchase of Dr. McGarey's books will be available. World renowned artist Randall Hedden will unveil a surprise work of art that will be auctioned that evening. The proceeds will benefit the ongoing work of The Gladys T. McGarey Foundation (http://www.mcgareyfoundation.org). Hors d’oeuvres and wine will be provided at this special program including opportunities to “Meet the Artists.”

More about Gallery 2345 - http://gallery2345.com

Gallery 2345 was recently opened by building owners, longtime valley residents, and successful entrepreneurs Eduardo and Sheila Castillo. As with many valley business owners, Sheila and Ed Castillo were faced with an unoccupied building, a continuing mortgage, no new tenants in sight and months of unproductive searching for alternatives. The couple reached out to their network of friends and business associates and during the process a seed of new possibilities was planted. With assistance from their creative genius, friend, and longtime Arizona artist - Kathryn Henneman, and the support of a local financial institution - Gallery 2345 was born. Collectively a decision was made to re-purpose the vacated space providing value to the arts, businesses and the community. May 14th Gallery 2345 opened with their inaugural illustration presenting "Phoenix Rising - Collaborations in Innovation."
The exhibits at Gallery 2345 feature the works of Arizona Artisans ranging from pillars of sculpted hand carved wood…pottery…spectacular images from photography from around the world…not to mention magnificent hand blown glass vessels and chandeliers, oils on canvas, hand crafted jewelry, ethnic treasures from Latin America and much more.
